My work for OTTO

During the last year I’ve been working at the OTTO GmbH & Co KG to save money for my semester abroad. OTTO is part of the Otto Group, which owns companies as SportScheck, Hermes or Crate & Barrel. I started as an intern in the CSR & Social Media Team and then continued as a part-time worker. But since we were only three people on the team, everyone saw me as a full member of it. I think until today the majority of my collegues haven’t noticed that I was not a full-time worker.

Our goal was (and still is) to communicate all of OTTO’s sustainable activities via Social Media. And because this is rather a new field, we had the test & learn status and thus more or less freedom in how to reach the goal. So on my first day at work, I was asked about what I’d like to do during my internship. My team had gathered some ideas before I came and one of them was starting a DIY-project. I really liked the idea so since then, this became my very own project.

Whenever I had time besides working on the daily issues, I worked on the DIY-project. I wrote a strategy, presented it to my boss, improved it and then finally implemented it. At first I created foto-stories in which I showed how to upcycle old clothes into new individual fashion pieces. Due to their success, my budget was increased in order to make DIY-Videos. So I chose a video agency I wanted to work with, organized the film day, wrote the story-boards, spoke with a lot of other teams at OTTO about sponsoring, picked the outfits, booked the room and then got filmed while I sew. It was so much work and I probably worked 60h in my last week, but now I think it was totally worth it.

I am so excited that today I can share the results with you. There will be more videos coming up, so stay tuned! The best way to stay tuned is to follow our Blog at Utopia. If you are keen to work in such a great team as I did, visit our career site. The Otto Group even has a Facebook-Page where you can get in touch with Ildiko and Denise from our HR-Team.

I had such a good time at OTTO, that’s why I want to thank the person who made all this possible: my boss/babo Alex. Thank you for trusting me, for giving me the responsibility for this project and for all the support. I hope you know how great your impact is :)

Also, I want to say thank you to all my collegues, because it’s the people who make the company as great as it is now! And now I’ll stop, we’re not at the Oscars! Hope you’ll enjoy the video.

Love, Soph

Du fehlst ganz schrecklich im Büro. :/

Total hübsches Video! Da freu ich mich doch auch schon auf Nachschub im April (Grundkenntnisse im Nähen sind inzwischen ja durchaus vorhanden ;-))!

Liebe Grüße ins Büro und nach Australien
