Sophie's World

I cut my hair. Does this change your perception of me? Does this change my perception of me? Does this change me?

I believe we tend to surround ourselves with people who are alike us. It’s great: You have similar interests and to some extend you share the same opinions or even values. All this gives you recognition, which feels good. However, I also believe that to broaden one’s horizon, it is important to surround yourself with people who (maybe at first) seem different to you. Who have different backgrounds, different opinions, different lifestyles. It is important to learn how to listen to each other, to understand each other and then finally how to overcome prejudices and instead feel compassion, despite the difference.

This haircut is an attempt to widen the perception of who I am and simultaneously an invitation to more empathy and compassion.

I am going to let my hair grow again and will document each stage in a blog (, including the reactions I will get. I am curious where this will lead me. Whatever happens, it will be a part of who I am: I am Vi*.

PS.: All my hair will go to the Verein Haarfee. It will turn into a wig and will be given to a child, who lost his or her hair. Haircut by Thomas. Contact him for a free haircut! Die Haarspender – Wir geben Haare für krebskranke Kinder

50cm later… :)

*Vi is actually my first name.
